Are there clergy who don’t believe in God? What is it like to be a pastor who doesn’t believe in God?
“Preachers who are not believers” is a study published by atheist philosopher Dr. Daniel Dennett and Linda LaScola, and funded by the Center for Cognitive Studies at Tufts University. LaScola is a clinical social worker with years of professional experience as a qualitative researcher and psychotherapist.
The Freethought Society is pleased to host LaScola as our Monday, November 7, 2011 speaker. Her talk will highlight the findings of this small pilot study of five Protestant preachers who agreed to be comprehensively interviewed about how this dilemma has impacted their lives.
LaScola will discuss how the study was conceived and executed and will include a discussion of a continuing larger study which is currently in progress. “The Clergy Project”, a private, confidential website forum supported by The Richard Dawkins Foundation, and moderated by Dan Barker, Freedom From Religion Foundation Co-President, which provides an online meeting place for current and former nonbelieving clergy.
The presentation will take place at 7:00 PM in the Montgomery Auditorium, located in the lower level of the Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
